On your way to a Safari anytime soon? Neither are we. However we will be making some weekend trips to Portofino, and what would be better than to carry your garments in an elegant safari bag. L.G.R and Sandstorm (a Kenyan based company) have collaborated to make a refined and practical bag for traveling. Like all other L.G.R products there is no external logo on the bag. The canvas, which is used to make tents as well, is water resistant and hand tinted in Tanzania, the corners are reinforced with leather, and there are adjustable studs for fastening closure. "Tangeri" in black/ yellow photochromic

If you are heading to Valencia’s Grand Prix this weekend, then bring some L.G.R’s with yellow gradient lenses, such as pictured above in the new model “Tangeri”. They are especially great for driving since the upper grey area of the lenses protect from sun exposure and the lower yellow area emphasizes the contrast of all objects within view, therefore making the ride a whole lot smoother.

Production – The Pantograph

Feb 14 2010

Pantografo

This is the pantograph, were each frame is obtained by carving a slab of acetate. Hanging on the wall there are the different models and on left hand side the slabs ready to be cut. The pantograph is operated by one man and it takes a few minutes to shape one frame.

Production – Hand Pantographed Frontals

Feb 8 2010

Hand Pantographed Frontals

This is another picture from our artisanal laboratory in Italy, were we produce all of our frames one by one by hand.

Once the first prototype is made the slabs of acetate are pantographed by hand and cut into shape to make the frontal part of the frames. These, on the picture, are the frontals of model Khartoum Avana, ready to be polished in the tumblers and mounted with the arms and hinges.

Production – Prototype Design

Prototype

Prototype Design

L.G.R frames are all designed by hand, we don’t use computers. I still don’t know if this is a good or a bad thing!

In order to make the last corrections to a prototype, we go back to the drawing and adjust it by changing millimetric features and forms.

Production – The Workshop

Dec 9 2009

L.G.R Workshop
This is the first step of production. It is the workshop by our laboratory were we transform our ideas into a real product. First, we have to combine the design with the right colours. Then the artisan goes into the lab, makes a first rough sample and we discuss it. This process can take several days before we find the perfect equlibrium of style, elegance and comfort. It’s a very delicate moment because depending on the mood we can make good or bad combinations. You have to make sure to enter the workshop with a clear mind, no preoccupations and knowing what you want, because the state of mind will strongly influence the results.
